Highlights

Experience

2023–present

Synectics plc

Senior Software Developer · Sheffield

Synectics builds advanced security and surveillance systems; its Synergy platform runs control rooms for cities, transport networks, casinos and offshore energy.

  • Created a chatbot system for air-gapped Synergy deployments, so operators can drive the system with no cloud connectivity. Also built the .NET Kafka client behind an AI search integration.
  • Engineered a bespoke CAD map conversion and rendering solution, built within Leaflet, ten times faster than the system it replaced.
  • Helped Synectics achieve CAPSS certification: overhauled our development practices to make them compliant, set up SonarQube and Mend.io, and hooked both into the build and release processes.
  • Standardised every CI/CD pipeline onto reusable common templates.
  • Led the customer data migration from single-tenant to multi-tenant cloud architecture, and contributed to the Synergy architectural overhaul behind it. In between: championing AI-assisted development tooling across engineering, mentoring developers, and working with product owners on scope, priorities and estimates.

2018–present

Wildfire Games Ltd

Founder & Director

Independent mobile game studio. Shipped Orbit Drift and Overrun on iOS and Android, handling everything from design and code to store release and post-launch updates, with full CI/CD to both stores.

2016–present

Pocket Labs Ltd

Co-founder & Director

First studio, co-founded while finishing my Master's. Pocket Universe (relaunched as Pocket Galaxy) shipped to both stores, profiled and optimised to run well on low-end devices. Space Station Tycoon is in development.

What I build

Games
Mobile games in Unity, and lately Godot, which I am learning by building with it. I do the whole thing myself: gameplay, UI, art, monetisation, store release.
Systems that ship software
Pipelines that take a commit through build, test, signing and real-device checks to a store submission without anyone touching it. GitHub Actions and Azure Pipelines.
A private cloud
A self-hosted Proxmox lab running around thirty services: git hosting, CI runners, dashboards, media, monitoring. It all sits behind a Cloudflare Zero Trust edge.
AI-assisted engineering
I pushed for AI-assisted development tooling at work, and I use it heavily in my own projects at home.
